Local multiplayer and humble bundle?

by blekdar

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at maybe getting a nexus player for my kids to use at home. Does anyone know how good the local multiplayer is with the games that are out?

Also, in terms of sideloading, anyone had any success with humble bundle? I have quite the library of humble bundle games and would love to take advantage of them on the TV. On that note, how's emulation on this thing?

Thanks guys!

The only game I've tried is bombsquad and it was a lot of fun. I haven't seen any other local multiplayer games.

Check out classicboy, a great emulator app that can be installed from the desktop play store. Plays nes, SNES, GBA, N64 games and others but you need to download the ROMs separately (obviously to do it legally you need to own the games in some form). Supports up to 4 players.

To get them on my ADT-1, which doesn't support USB storage, I side loaded the Dropbox app and opened each ROM from Dropbox and loaded them with classicboy. Best part is classicboy will copy the Roms to internal storage, so after the initial load you don't need to worry about messing with Dropbox.

The app works great even though the ui isn't made for TV, just make sure you set up and correctly map the controllers for each console before handing it off to the kids. Seems like a great easy way to introduce your kids to some awesome retro gaming!

I haven't tested extensively so forgive me if you run into errors. I know that Smash Bros works but is too laggy to be played seriously, Mario kart 64 works and Paper Mario stalls in the opening.

I have sideloaded the Humble Bundle app. You need a file browser and the alternative launcher for it. The Humble app is horrible to navigate, much of it is cut off the sides of the screen and it is difficult to select what game you want. I was able to install Leo's Fortune though, and that game is fully Android TV compatible, so I guess if a game is available on the play store for the TV, then if you have it on Humble, it will be fine.
