I have 4 of these and love them. Well worth the $50 they cost.
But it isn't the latest and greatest. This can't handle more than 30fps (some TV stations and videos are 60fps) - any more fps and it will just stutter. 1080p is the max resolution It also doesn't do Dolby surround sound.
I would recommend finding a homebrew BIOS update (by Finless) that removes some of the bloatware and makes the device more stable.
The newer generation of quad core devices which cost $100+ might be a better choice these days. Some of them can handle 60fps, 4k video and Dolby.
Am I missing something or is there a reason these are still called "Android TV" boxes when they actually run Android and not Android TV. http://www.android.com/tv/ I think it'd be useful if we took some effort to properly name things.
I'm not trying to say this specific box is bad or anything, but it's just not what the title says it is.
