Any way to remove Netflix border on 4:3 shows?

by coonskinmario

I just got a nexus player, and mostly like it. However, I have a problem with the Netflix app: when playing an old show that is 4:3, the app puts this grey-to-black gradient along the sides.

Now ordinarily, Netflix shows plain black bars along the sides. That's how it works in chrome on my pc, the app built into my tv, and even the android app on my phone. So it's odd to me that they made this decision. My concern is that it will cause burn in on my plasma tv if used too often.

Is there a setting to turn it off? I looked, but perhaps I missed it. If not, is there a hack to change it? Barring those options, who could I email that would be closest to the Netflix android development team for this feature request?

edit: I did find that they have a play store email ( playstore@netflix.com ). I don't know if anyone reads it. I'll update if I get any real response.

edit 2: Did an online chat with someone at help.netflix.com and made the request. The representative said she'd pass my message on.

Could be wrong but I'd think it would be less likely to cause burn in since now all areas of the screen have some action add opposed to just the middle and not the sides.

Could be wrong and I'm sure more than anything it's ugly.

I too found this annoying. Thanks for the email. I will contact them as well.

Your TV should have modes to stretch content to wide screen.

I use zoom settings on my TV. Don't stretch, instead zoom in. Might cut a bit off, but the picture is a normal ratio.
