TV And Movie Solution Without XBMC

by jnrbshp

Like the title says I want a way to stream television and movies to android tv, but i dont like the (IMO) complex UI of xbmc...

Ive used apps like showbox and portal tv on my other android devices, and i kow those aent fully compatible with android tv.. i want to know if there are any alternatives yet for android tv (besides casting from those apps)

Popcorn Time is usable with a usb mouse and Mobdro works fine for live tv

Plex, but you need to have a server for it.

I don't use these apps but I heard this is great.

I think you'll find that XBMC/Kodi is really the only thing that works.

You can customize the look of the UI. You can strip away any of the categories and menus until you have a very basic interface capable of very little.

My family was afraid of the UI. But once it was explained and they had a couple days with it, there was no looking back.

Thanks for all the replies guys...I guess xbmc is the go to app for streaming content at this point...I hope in the future some Dev adapts one of their streaming apps to the leanback interface

I use the android app Vimu on my Logitech Revue streaming over my local network via Windows SMB.

Kinda surprised more people don't do this....since it's 1080p native playback. Full mkv support with srt too!!

Does an admirable job on 3D content to boot on a five year old device (the Revue).

the Xbmc UI is totally customizable.

Try the Titan mediabrowser skin on kodi (formerally XBMC). Its a very easy and user friendly UI. It's what i setup for my family to use who are average users that are not into tech at all. I suggest disabling submenu's also for an even simpler experience. The other option is plex .
