Interesting that Google are pursuing a slightly different route to their Nexus mobile devices in terms of out-of-the-box uniformity.

If you're using MUBI Android, know that you won't be getting HD. Video playback is capped at 480p across the entire Android ecosystem.
Just got this response from MUBI support after a week of pointless back-and-forth. Evidently not even their primary customer service rep knew that they didn't support HD on Android.

For the moment, the MUBI Android app is stable but limited to 480p progressive download. This seems to be the reason behind the lower resolution. I'm afraid on all Android devices, you will be limited to 480p resolution. We are currently focusing on other platforms at the moment, platforms which are not stable like Android, and we won't be working on Android in the near future.
If you wish to watch HD content on your TV, please try Apple TV from Apple devices, PlayStation (launching end of July) or the good ol' fashioned HDMI cable from the laptop. The web player has good HD playback.
I'm sorry we can't provide a more immediate solution. I hope you can continue to enjoy the site. We are looking to resolve this issue over the summer, just not in the next week or so.
