The M release will make the Player really awesome

by tacomonstrous

I just installed the preview on my Nexus Player, and there are two additions that make the experience much much better:

  1. Pairing with Bluetooth headphones: Exactly what it sounds like. Big deal when wifey's asleep.

  2. External storage: Android M has the capability of formatting external storage as 'internal' for practical purposes. Got a Kingston 64GB USB 3.0 drive and BAM! I've increased the available storage space by 1200%. No longer do I need to worry about installing Asphalt 8 or the Game of Thrones games. This is a game changer!

I just installed it. At first I installed without erasing everything, but was having major issues. In my experience, you need to do a complete wipe of the device and start from scratch.

In installed Pluto.tv to check out the Live Channels integration and it's quite cool. What it does is import all the "channels" from Pluto.tv and bring them into Live Channels. I guess apps can support this feature and bring channels from various sources into one place where you can customize an EPG for a more traditional television browsing/watching experience. It's a lot better than the stock Pluto.tv app. I imagine if you have an OTA antenna you can connect that to a TV tuner and have your live TV networks with channels from other sources all living within one app.

Sling does not work on the M preview. It crashes instantly. I'm hoping a future update will bring Live Channel integration.

I was thinking about installing it. Any issues so far? Or better yet does it fix any issues?

Just ordered the Shield pro because of the extra internal memory... Ah well... So do you have to install your games on the device first and then move them to the usb or can you install them on there right away?

I'm thinking about installing the preview on my Player later tonight. Any major bugs or issues to worry about?
