You do lose the voice search button, but you gain play/pause, skip fowards, skip backwards and menu (nexus player remote has play/pause but nvidia shield remote doesn't).  Menu and the skip buttons come in handy on Kodi.  This remote probably also works on forge tv but I don't own one , so I can't test it.

I have a few firetv remotes. I can't get the bastards to pair with my Shield. Pair with my Mac / NUCs fine tho

u can control Shield with TV remote if your tv has hdmi-cec

Thanks for pointing this out, also loosing voice search is a plus for me, I don't use it and don't like having it use a button.
