Nvidia Shield console owners. I have questions.

by ha7on

Did you buy it because of 4k streaming ability? That would be my only reason for buying. Although I wish roku would say something about the next version regarding this. Is there any word of upcoming 4k streaming services coming to the Shield? I think the only option on it right now is Netflix and YouTube?

I bought it cause its future proof, can pull in my antenna channels, has Chromecast abilities, and is blazing fast.

I bought it because I want official PC game streaming support (instead of via the Moonlight app, which is just reversed engineered from the Nvidia solution; and can be cut off at any time) - the built in IR and Harmony support - and because Nvidia has shown it's pretty good with Android updates.

I bought it because while my nexus player was "aight" the Shield had far more power, better controller, nvidia integrated features/exclusives, and OMG IT HAS AN IR SENSOR.

...and I love cool tech.

EDIT: Also it has more future expansion options and gigabit ethernet.

For now, I bought it to:

  • Replace my Chromecast
  • NVIDIA Gamestream from my gaming PC
  • Native Plex app support
  • Trying out games in GRID that I don't want to buy.

In the future:

  • 4k netflix (maybe)
  • TV Tuner use (maybe)
  • Other apps not yet available

Does it have VPN capabilities?

4K and the GameStream features. I have a pretty beefy PC and sometimes I just want to sit in the living room and play instead of being in the dungeon.

Newest use for mine is playing the 4k vids I take on my GoPro straight from the memory card.
