Overscan Issue-- Shield TV and others, perhaps?

by noahsark3

I have a Shield TV and a ~5 year old RCA LCD TV that served me valiantly through college. The TV is still plugging along, but the Shield, for some reason, is the only device that overscans (the edges are cut off).

There is no way to fix the overscan issue from the TV; I've tried through the menu as well as the 'secret' factory menu and had no luck. But the Shield doesn't give any options to change these settings either.

In stock android, I thought there was a way to adjust screen size on TVs. Has anyone else dealt with/fixed overscan on Android TV?

There's no overscan adjustment on the Shield as of yet. According to a couple of posts I've seen from Nvidia CS reps they "will be adding overscan adjustment in a future update".

I haven't gotten a Shield yet, but am planning on it. I know my TV has a decent overscan because I have to adjust my satellite box, and Fire TV, so it will definitely be a welcome update.

Had this same problem on my Nexus Player and old tv. Found this xda forum post . Sideload the apk and run it once, it let me adjust the overscan. It seems like the apk is just a launcher to run something that's built into Android, anyway it worked great for me.

No clue if it'll work on your Shield but good luck.

Can you try sideloading NOVA launcher and then get to the Activities section and look for the Overscan activity. This is what I did on my Nexus Player for my old tv. Not sure of you get the parse error with NOVA launcher too?!
