[Nexus Player Owner] Should I buy a Nvidia Shield TV?

by warmaster

I really like playing immersive games with deep, long storylines when I'm alone, and 4 player co-op games easy enough so anyone can pick up a controller and play, no learning curve whatsoever.

I feel that my Nexus player is rather limited from a game availability, storage capacity & performance perspective.

One thing that is really winning me over is the idea of playing dreamcast games on a Shield TV, I've read Reicast runs good on it.

Another thing that is really grabbing my attention is GameStreaming. I'm planning to build a better plex server, this time around, powerful enough to stream games locally. How's your experience with this? is lag an issue? I have an ASUS RT-AC68W .

Would you recommend me to buy this given my profile ?

I kept my nexus player to use on another TV and upgraded my living room TV to a Shield Pro. My wife and I could not be happier while I used to hear her complain all the time about the nexus player. Now I constantly hear her say how much she likes the Shield. The entire experience of the shield feels much much smoother on the Shield. For myself I love the storage space and the gaming that it brings to the table as well.

I had thought about upgrading too, I bought my NP originally to use as a game console. Since I mostly watch YouTube and Netflix and play old Nintendo games on emulators, I decided its probably not for me.

Having owned both I recommend it. The best part is that it will work with your Logitech Harmony remote! Huge deal.. What kind of noob uses multiple remotes?

Do you plan to have gigabit ethernet between the shield and your server? If so then Gamestream will work great.

I've had one for a couple days. I've been having lots of problems with the wifi where it just stops working and I have to reset the device. Gamestream is ok, but even if I do connect it with gigabit ethernet it still has pretty noticeable lag. I'm probably going to end up returning it.

About streaming games...I've got an AMD Radeon, because it was the only way to mine cryptocurrency and now because Eyefinity. Is it possible to stream games with my setup, you know, at all...?

Nvidia Shield tv is great. But Android doesn't have Good Dreamcast emulator that runs flawlessly. YouTube videos for this and you'll see how some games run on it. I love the device however.
