I'm interested in using an android tv box instead of paying for Sky TV. I've done quite a bit of research but I still feel kinda lost. Now it seems everyone agrees that Kodi is great and I should look for a box which has this on. Fine that looks the way to go, but, I have an Xbox One which has the Plex app on...now I don't mind paying £4 a month if Plex will let me view pretty much anything I want to, but I kinda don't want to be restricted a la Netflix.
TL:DR Should I go for a standalone box with Kodi, or run TV through my Xbone for a small monthly fee? Any tips for a noobie would be appreciated. Thanks.
Plex doesn't give you any content. It's a media server, so you have to own the content first. Plex also doesn't have live streaming of any channels. People generally pair plex with an automated download service that can fetch movies and tv shows via bit torrent or usenet
Kodi can run on android tv. You just need to sideload the app until the official android tv version of Kodi comes out. With kodi there are tons of plugins that give you access to live tv channels, but these are generally not reliable since they are illegal.
If Sky TV has an android app or android tv app, then you are set in terms of that.
If you are looking for a free and legal way to have live tv, then you can look at over the air services using an antenna. You can pair this with devices like hd home run to view it on google live channels.
