hasnt it supported this for a month now?
What is Pluto TV?
I hope more apps are coming soon. If I recall from I/O they mentioned about 5-10 apps that were coming soon including AOL the Weather Channel and Huffington Post.
The weather channel added supported now too.
Pluto TV has done a nice job of integrating with Android TV generally, with some very slick UI features and genuinely useful recommendations & search (Netflix take note).
But while the integration with Live Channels looks good, it exposes some basic problems with Google's concept here. Firstly, it just replicates the Pluto app functions, except without the ability to pause the streams (deal breaker).
Secondly, while a single, uniform program guide for all Live Channels sounds great, it quickly becomes unwieldy with the 100+ channels that Pluto alone contributes. You can only scroll up/down slowly between channels, as there's no way of manually entering a channel number or otherwise jumping to one, no favorites, no way to set reminders and of course no kind of DVR functionality.
Also, once a stream is started it seems impossible to stop it. It just carries on playing in the background of the Home screen - it takes launching a different app to quit it properly.
So basically we're in typical Google beta territory here with Live Channels - an embryonic idea that will probably take another 12 months of iteration before it finds its identity.
