Shield TV app recommendations?

by [deleted]

I am getting my Shield TV in the mail tomorrow and was wondering what apps you guys could recommend to help me get the most out of my system. It's a bit disorganized to look for the right stuff online.

Emulation, media playback or whatever you think would be cool to have, I am open to.

I plan on using Gamestream so anything that could help with that I'd like to know about, as well.

Thanks in advance!

If you're a heavy Youtube user I'd recommend installing Kodi (which is also an amazing media center) and its Youtube addon. The Android TV Youtube app is extremely watered down and confusing to use in some places.

Some emulators that I've used that work well on the Shield TV are PPSSPP, ePSXe, MegaN64, and Drastic (for DS games that don't rely on the touchscreen). There are more native Android TV emulator apps but those are the only ones that I've tried so far. If you have any other Android devices you may want to sideload FolderSync (it does require a mouse to set up the folder pairs but that's all). I have it installed on my Note 4 and my Shield TV and it lets me keep my emulator saves in sync with each other.

ES File Explorer is number one. Makes sideloading infinitely easier. Just connect it to dropbox or drive and you can directly download and install apk's.

Get ES FileExplorer so you can sideload apps from the HDD. Then get a wireless mouse. Then get Popcorn Time.

Plex server on your PC and Plex on the shield TV makes for great home movie viewing.
