What is the difference in the Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV?

by kissthering

Is the Fire TV much more powerful than the Fire TV Stick? What would I be getting for $100 vs $40?

FYI neither of those are Android TVs.

Right now that includes: nvidia shield tv, nexus player, and razer forge.

Not sure what differences there are for the Fire tv vs fire stick, although the fire tv is certainly more powerful. Do you want to play games or watch video streams more?

As already pointed out, they aren't Android TVs. However, they do run an old version of Android. Using the old android version means it's not compatible with the latest version of some apps, like Plex. It instead has an old and buggier version of Plex.

The Fire TV Stick has a lot less processing power than the Fire TV and I think the remote is not as nice either.

I went from a Fire TV Stick to a Shield TV and couldn't be happier. I think that the Android TV boxes are much nicer than the Fire TV ones.

Can this be deleted with the OP kindly posted in the proper /r/firetv sub....thanks

This is what the box has over the stick

  • twice the memory (same internal store of 8gb).

-USB support, including external storage up to 120gb, controllers keyboards and mice

-optical audio out

-expanded Bluetooth - keyboards touch pads and audio (you can listen with Bluetooth headphones privately)

-compatibility with all firetv apps and games. The stick doesn't have the processing power for some apps and games

-Ethernet

-voice remote

Edit: more powerful processor You cannot watch google play movies on either without miracast (why I have Android TV too) want to thing I noticed is that miracast works better on a stick and then it works on the box, for some unknown reason, with my Nexus 7 2013. The box is unwatchable with Miracast and Google play movies
