Amazon Deal on "G-Streamer Octa Core Android TV Box" Later Today - Is it any good?

by [deleted]

So there's a deal going on at 1PM EST today for this G-Streamer box.

There's no telling how much it will be marked down to, but if it's a good deal, I may go for it. What's the consensus on this box or ones like it?

Do some research on Netflix support if that matters to you.

Ya its not AndroidTv its an "Android" TV box. which means your essentially running apps designed for the Android phone/tablet interface wrapped in a custom launcher from the looks of it.

Wow this thing supports more formats than my shield tv. I still would not buy it though The UI probably sucks and it probably has poor performance and won't get the latest updates

That's not Android TV

I'm late to the party but I have quite a lot of experience with these type of android boxes. Actually, being honest so many of them are the same internals with a different case. I've probably used this one in question once or twice.

These boxes can be great depending on how you intend to use it. If you want a kodi box, you can install kodi launcher and make it only a kodi box and it will be fantastic if it can play 1080 with no lag. This brings me to one of the problems, they are usually under powered as fuck. Doesn't matter if it has a octa core, quad core, or even billion core; its bullshit. If you find a device with decent ram you are better off, and look up the chipset if you can. Rooting is often not an option, but you can get lucky with some universal root options you can find in some generic android box forums. I can't name one in particular, you have to search quite far and wide. Don't be optimistic about running many other apps. You can side load some emulators with pretty good success but there rarely is native play store support, and side loading play services can be tricky and buggy at best.

Tl;dr Chinese android boxes are pretty iffy, so stick to kodi if you do buy.

Edited for clarity

Do you really want to trust something that has a Internet Explorer icon on the remote?
