Is Netflix ever going to fix its useless app?

by Kalzenith

I can't let it auto play the next episode or it crashes.. Every once in a while it crashes for no reason (as in once or twice in a single 45 minute show), and there's no voice search option.

Are they deliberately ignoring their useless app?

This is my experience on my Nexus player, yet I have no issues on my Nexus 5.

I haven't experienced crashes with the Netflix app on my Shield TV, though I agree they should definitely add support for voice search. It'd also be nice to see suggestions from Netflix in the recommendations section in the launcher.

Netflix app on my Nexus Player has been kicking me out with the message that 'this device has been deactivated' at the end of any program I watch, then I have to log back in again which is a pain in the ass with the d-pad remote. I got onto their live help chat and was speaking to a guy that confirmed that it wasnt just me and a few people had logged the issue at around the same time (a month ago). Said the app was being updated, but gave me no ETA. I've been using a hand me down PS3 from my brother, which is basically the same interface but supports 5.1 audio instead of just stereo on the Nexus Player. So I'm not that fussed, just annoyed. I'd suggest everyone hop onto the Netflix support chat and log the issue with a tech.

My Netflix worked flawlessly until about two weeks ago. I've never had issues with it crashing, but it does bring up the message saying it's been deactivated on the device if I let it auto play the next episode. Super frustrating. Hopefully it's fixed soon!

I spoke with Netflix (Reps name was Claudia) to complain about this issue. I got the response its cause is due to maintenance being done in the system and that it was halfway done.

I then complained saying month long maintenance is unacceptable and that this has been going on for far too long. It needs to be fixed or I'll start looking at alternatives.

She asked me if it worked okay on my other devices - I said yes. Her next response was basically just use something until it gets fixed. ( not exact words but still unacceptable to me as a paying customer)

She then "escalated" the case and asked the engineers - their response is an app update is in the works to fix this. No ETA. I then ended the chat after telling them this has been horrible experience, and its ridiculous that after this long there still is not even an ETA.

Netflix needs to get their shit together with this. Almost a month this has been going on. I recommend everyone contact support to complain and start rating their app 1 star until its fixed. Maybe we can hit their twitter as well to shame them a bit into fixing this since they obviously don't care.

You think Google would pressure them to fix such a high profile app on their own nexus line.

Sorry for formatting - I'm on mobile.

No problems with Netflix on my SHIELD TV or 3x Nexus Players.

The only thing I wish they'd do is add Home Screen recommendations. I don't use voice but it should be added as well. Better to have and not need, than need and not have.

I still see the Chromecast option on my phone and tablet.

Sounds like you have some issues specific to your end/setup.

Netflix app works fine on my Shield. Would like to see recommendations on the homepage tho.

I have a Sony Bravia TV with the Netflix app. If I turn my TV off, then back on and go to netflix, I get a message that I'm not connected to the internet. I definitely am, and have to choose the option to restart the app.

Also the netflix app has a bad habit of auto-playing some shitty movie or show I'm not interested in when I'm done with what I did want to watch.

To add to this, there is also a known bug with this version of the app that will briefly and randomly kill foreground audio when streaming content with 5.1 sound. Usually happens during intense action scenes when it suddenly goes quiet for some kind of dialog.

Reading all of this makes the fact my Forge TV doesn't currently have Netflix not seem so bad. I just switch over to my Chromecast and everything works perfect Netflix wise (for now).
