[Weekend Poll & Discussion] Is Android TV Yet Another Living Room Flop For Google? Do You Have One?

My Nexus Player isn't perfect by any means, but I love it. I really hope Android TV isn't a flop.

I'm loving the Shield, but I just wish more native apps were available.

I really want to see Google market Android TV as a platform better. I'm rocking the Nvidia Shield TV and it's badass, although I know I'm the early adopter type and I think consumers for the most part don't even know that it exists.

I really really hope android TV doesn't flop, my entire entertainment system centres around my Nexus player, I love it

I don't think that it's a flop by any means. I think the main problem is general lack of app development; Google included.

I enjoy my Nexus Player.

Sure it's not living up to it's (amazing) potential and taking TV usage into new realms yet, and the lack of apps is a bit concerning.

But it makes a fantastic NetFlix, Plex, and Radio Paradise client and the kids in our house use it for YouTube and a bit of Crossy Road. That covers 95% of everything I use the TV for. It's far quicker and nicer to use than the Samsung SmartTV apps I was using previously.

BTW. The Nexus player is cheaper at Amazon or Walmart for $70 than link posted in article.

I have a Nexus Player. I really wish that it had HDMI pass-through like the Google TV unit I replaced with it. However, as a streaming video service client it is pretty good.

me and my wife been using our nexus every day since we got it. installed kodi and dumped our old htpc and very rarely turn on directv, wish we could get out of their 2 year contract.

Have the Shield TV. No regrets, I don't think it will flop, Android needs to be in different entertainment sectors and this is one of them.

Looking at the current poll results, it seems like nexus player (and nvidia shield) just increased the android TV figures with around 2000%.

If it was a flop, that should be in the process of being fixed now.

I have the Shield TV but I use it in my room where I have my TV connected to my computer so I've been invested in watching everything on my PC for quite some time. Eventually I plan to watch as much content on it as is supported but my lack of use hasn't made me regret the purchase. Lately I've been keeping an eye out for games that I want to play that I own or will purchase if they're compatible with both phone & TV. If I'm going to start an RPG, I know I can easily get heavily invested either on the go or at home on a console and stop playing for months & then feel like starting over instead of completing it from where I left off since I have no clue what's going on in the story (I've done this with a lot of Final Fantasy games & it's frustrating knowing how much fun the game can be once I get deep into it so I never end up getting invested). I still have some of that hesitation lingering but I'm slowly getting over it. I've found myself picking up Final Fantasy Tactics from time to time but I'd really like to sit down & play in front of the TV in order to make some real progress but unfortunately they haven't added support yet.

I enjoy my Forge TV as a KODI, Google Music. Youtube, Emulator device. It's cheap, runs smooth and the ethernet port is great. I wish it had netflix but I just use my CC for that. Hopefully they upgrade this thing to Android M fast and I can use external storage with it. Google needs to start advertising the platform. Barely anyone knows about it.

Liking my Shield TV. Hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as Google TV. Thought that had a lot of promise. Even recommended it to my aunt. She bough it and then kaput.
