Razer android TV box. Questions.

by chowder007

Just wondering if anyone owns one of these yet? How are you liking it? Finally convinced the wife to cut the cord AGAIN but want to get something that can run kodi. Can run it from the pc but it's annoying not being able to use kodi and the TV at the same time.

Is the full play store available on it or can you at least side load apps?

Would you say it's probably the best out right now or would that be the shield? The shield is way out of my price range so other than the shield is it the best out right now.

I'm not super concerned about streaming apps as I have my xbox1 already. The main point is to be able to easily get live streams through kodi.

Save your cash and get the shield. Kodi runs on it great.

Hopefully someone with a nexus player can say how well it runs.

Definitely erase the razer forge from your memory though.

the nexus player would be a lot better than the razor box imo.

But even so, an nvidia shield is only $50 more than a forgetv?

Bad deinterlacing. No Netflix.

Nexus Player owner here: Kodi 15.1 running perfect on it. Picked one up at BestBuy a few days ago for $70. Make sure you price match with their website when you go because its $5 cheaper online.

Also: its running Android 5.1.1 right now, but if you want, you can manually install the Android M Preview 3 build on it already.

If you're solely looking for something to do video playback, check out the Nexus Player. If you think you might be doing some gaming, I'd say save an extra $50 and get the Shield.

Cosign for the ShieldTV. And Nexus player as a 2nd/bedroom player

I have Kodi running on a fire TV stick in my bedroom and a shield TV in my living room. It's completely functional on my fire TV stick, but it lacks physical inputs for USB drives and SD cards and is slower than the shield TV. I also notice I have to occasionally restart Kodi on the fire TV stick or videos stop loading.

The razor forge seems too expensive for what it offers. Either get one of the cheaper devices such as the nexus player or spring for the vastly superior shield TV.
