Please could someone give e a brief explanation on how to set up network sharing on my tv from my laptop?
Plugging my HDD into the TV takes to long to load everything up (about an hour)

Install ES File Explorer, browse your network (LAN), open video with MX Player (or player of choice). This is what I'm using and it works great. I don't use apps like Plex or Kodi because there's no need for my computer to transcode the video when the TV and MX Player can decode the video itself. Playing files on my Windows (SMB) shares work perfectly this way.
Try Plex, well worth a purchase
You could install kodi from the play store and share your movies with samba.
Right click the movie folder should be an option to share it on the network. Kodi should be able to find it. A quick Google should give you all the information you need.
