USB Console Controllers on Nexus Player: A Report (DualShock 4 works)

by atbigelow

It took a bit of experimentation for me to find a gamepad setup for my Nexus Player. I wanted to avoid the standard Nexus gamepad and try out the other big time console controllers. And do it without any additional apps or rooting and via the USB connection (with a USB 2 Go adapter). Following is the data I've collected.

  • XBox 360: non-functional
  • XBox One: non-functional
  • Wii U Pro Controller: non-functional
  • DualShock 2 (via USB adapter): non-functional with my particular adapter.
  • DualShock 3: non-functional. NP reported "controller attached" but no inputs other than the D-pad worked.
  • DualShock 4: functional!

DS4 worked immediately when attaching. Tried it out on both Pac-Man 256 and Final Fantasy IV.

I wanted to avoid using any sideloaded apps or bluetooth trickery so my remote would still work.

Here's to some fun NP gaming in my future!

XBox 360 controller actually works perfectly fine on my Nexus Player...

I've gotten both Xbox one and Xbox 360 controllers to work, as well as dual shock 3. I find most controllers just work more often than not.

I've heard that the USB wireless adapters for the Xbox 360 will allow multiple Xbox 360 controllers to work at the same time? Has anyone confirmed this?

It would be incredible to use the 3 or 4 controllers I have laying around with one accessory purchase, instead of buying 3-4 more compatible controllers.

The Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R (Bluetooth) works perfectly right out of the box, no trickery required.

It also acts like a mouse when you want it to.. And a media controller (play/pause, etc).

Also, i just replaced the batteries for the first time after a couple months of use despite using it a lot to play games like KOTOR.

Though now that the S.U.R.F.R is available for order in Canada, I'm gonna get one of those because it includes a keyboard.
