First time buyer of ANDROID BOX - HELP!!

by timtim003

(I'm living in Canada btw) Hey everyone, I have netflix but I want all the newer movies and even some older ones that netflix does NOT carry. I have the showbox app on my phone which is amazing but I want something to be on my TV instead of having to watch everything on my 6 inch screen :(.

I've heard chrome cast is really good for this if you want to stream from phone to the TVBut I also have heard about android box…I have no idea about it at all I’ve just heard it’s really good and has like everything and even some live TV !! I’m just not too sure which android box I should be getting? I don’t want mine to be slow and laggy but I also don’t wanna go spend like 600$ on one -.- … anyone got any ideas which one to buy and from where..preferably best buy or walmart??

Thanks all

Here is the official androidtv site. https://www.android.com/tv/ The manufacturers are listed there.

For Boxes your options are (prices are USD): The Nvidia Sheild $199-16gb, $299 -500gb

The Nexus Player (most likely to be available at Walmart and Best Buy) $69.99 @ Walmart

Razer Forge TV - avoid this one- if need Netflix, least supported in apps. $99 box only, $150 bundle. It is unfortunate that this one doesn't have Netflix (no casting, no app only mirroring/screencast) and poor app support.

Edit: BTW avoid the "android tv" boxes not listed on the official site. They are not running androidtv. Usually you cannot stream apps like Netflix in full HD on them.

If you don't mind spending $299 for the Nvidia console pro version (500GB) that will be your best bet. If you are not a heavy gamer you can get the 16GB version for $199. With this you will install Kodi from the Play Store on the device and through addons will be able to access online content, music and even games.

Wait for the next-gen Nexus TV if you can. Otherwise if you want to play games then consider the Nvidia Shield.

There are no other boxes really worth considering.

Go grab a Nexus Player at Walmart. They just drop to $89.99. I have one in our living room and one in the bedroom and they are great devices at that price point.
