Nexus Player: Got usb otg, Kodi installed and an external hard disk drive. Cant get Kodi to access the hard drive to add as a video source. Any thoughts?

by JoeLuna

I have an external hard drive with about 200 movies on it. I attached it to my Nexus Player, Im able to access the hard drive with ES File Explorer but Kodi will not allow me to add it as a video file source. Doest list it when browsing to add as source. Am I doing anything wrong or need to add something?

How is the drive formatted? If its NTFS, i don't think android can read that file system. I had to change my drive to exFAT for my Shield TV to read the drive and get it to show up in Kodi.

Grab a thumb drive, format it in NTFS and throw a movie on it and see what behavior you get. Then try the same with FAT32. Also, see what happens in VLC player.

My 2 tb is formatted in NTFS and cannot be read on my Nexus Player.

The only workaround I found is not the prettiest of solutions but it works. Install ef file explorer. Mount the drive and find the file you want to watch. Open it and set kodi as your default player. That's how I got my sheild to play movies from an ntfs hard drive
