Am I missing something with recommendations or do they just suck?

by Cueball61

I have two apps set to feed into recommendations, Plex and YouTube.

Am I missing something here? Because I get no Plex recommendations (okay, fair enough, most of the library is marked as watched) and the YouTube recommendations are generic ones as if you weren't logged in, so they're all pretty much junk too.

Is there no way to get YouTube to give tailored recommendations on the home screen?

Recommendations are only as good as the apps themselves enable them to be. Unfortunately does not seem to be much (any?) control for tailoring the recommendations at this time.

I downloaded haystack, and that adds to the recommendations a bit. Ted talks also adds to the recommendations. Granted these arent adding anything crazy, but it breaks up the same old youtube videos over and over.

I had to turn off my recommendations from Hulu because all of my recommendations were for the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon. I've never watched or even searched for any shows similar to it, so I don't know why Hulu feels the need to recommend it to me all the time.

It depends on the developers. YouTube will show popular videos. A few others apps will as well. I don't know of many that are that good at providing custom recommendations.

(One of my own apps which is a YouTube client does give tailored recommendations.)

Yeah its based on how the specific apps are taking advantage of it. Plex and hulu seem to only show me things that are in the 'continue watching' category.
