New to Android TV, looking for hardware recommendations, thank you :)

by ma1r

Hey everyone, I've been researching Android TVs and I'm fairly overwhelmed with the options. That being said, could you please recommend a good Android Media player for my family?

I will primarily use it for Kodi (Genesis Plugin), and Netflix. If it supports Popcorn Time, YouTube, a web browser, HMA VPN, HBO GO that's a bonus.

I was looking at the Nexus Player, but if there is another media box/player better than the Nexus Player for my usage, please let me know! I am looking for something under $150.

If you also know good websites to buy the media player for cheap, please let me know :) or good apps/plugins!

Thank you so much for any help!

Have both a shield and nexus player. The NP should be perfect for what you want to do.

Nexus Player with the Android 6.0 update is incredible. I added a 32GB flash drive to mine and can install a ton of apps and games. If you are a heavy gamer I'd spend the extra and get the Nvidia Shield. You can get the Nexus Player at best Buy for $49.99

Did you see the Reddit post on /r/Android earlier today that showed the Nexus Player for 25USD?

I have the nexus player. I paid $50 for it, and its been worth every penny. It's on sale for $40 right now through adorama.com. I use it mainly for the kodi media player and it works perfectly for that. And the built in casting features are a plus, as it has all the benefits of a chromecast, but is still usable as a standalone device.

With the Marshmallow update, the Nexus Player is a no brainer. At $40, it's an absolute steal at the moment.
