Shield TV - crazy high open sessions in router NAT

by -ThereCanBeOnly1

My Shield will from time to time lose all internet connectivity, but still be able to access my local NAS. This has been getting really annoying, and the only fix is to restart my router. No amount of googling has turned up any results near to what my problem is. The closes I've gotten, and seems to be on the right track, is the router's NAT settings for open sessions was the culprit, and I promptly increased the value a few times, now all the way up to 12288 .

This seems really unnecessary, but since restarting everything yesterday, I can see that the Shield has 5238 open sessions, which is climbing slowly. Weird, since the Shield is currently in sleep mode, and really shouldn't be doing anything at all.

Anyone out there a networking expert and can help? My router/modem is a Zyxel P-2812HNU.

EDIT: If any Shield owners out there could give some insight into their experience, and log into their router to see how many sessions theirs uses, that would be much appreciated! Would be good with some comparison numbers!

EDIT2 Update: Sessions for the Shield now up to 7558 since original post.

Two things come to mind. You are using Torrents or have Malware on a device on your network. The PopcornTime hour app can be sideloaded onto the Shield and uses P2P for its streaming. Personally I don't trust those cheap routers to begin with and wouldn't rule out that is also the issue. Can you try a different router?

Wow man this seems really strange. Right now I'm streaming a baseball game on my Shield. This is every entry right now on the Shield as you see using 33.17: Mon Oct 19 2015, 8:35:16 PM 192.168.33.17 mlblive-akc.mlb.com Mon Oct 19 2015, 8:34:55 PM 192.168.33.17 mlb.mlb.com Mon Oct 19 2015, 8:34:55 PM 192.168.33.17 gdx.mlb.com Mon Oct 19 2015, 8:30:19 PM 192.168.33.17 brightcove04.o.brightcove.com Mon Oct 19 2015, 8:25:46 PM 192.168.33.17 ota.nvidia.com

That's it, basically an update check and MLB servers.
