New Sony Android TV Questions - Miracast and Remote Control from Windows 10 Computer

by King0fK0ng

I have a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 10, can I use miracast to send my desktop to my Sony TV (XBR55X810C) running Android TV? The TV support miracast, but not sure if my Dell does. I intend to run a long hdmi cable to the TV from my computer eventually but would like to try out miracast in the mean time.

Second question, can I use my computer as a remote - some sort of virtual remote app on my computer to change channel or launch apps. Does the Android TV OS (or app) have some sort of remote control services?

Windows 10: Settings > Devices > Connected Devices > Add a Device, your WiDi device should be listed, if not ask Dell.

Otherwise Google Cast is inbuilt, so cast tab or whole screen from Chrome.

For remote control, you could get the Arc Welder Chrome App in your Chrome browser, then install this with Arc Welder: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote

Arc Welder is a Chrome app that lets you install and run (test) Android apps in Chrome.
