Shield TV $50 off at Amazon. 16 GB or 500 GB?

by joedinkle

I got an email with a great offer on the Shield, but I'm torn between the 2 models. My questions are:

Do GeForce Now games require any storage space, or is this a pure streaming experience?

Are the storage types the same between the different sizes? I recall that the 16 GB used a faster storage technology.

How much space do emulated games take up?

How do emulated games perform on external storage(HDD or SD)?

16 GB users, do you have any regrets, or can you get by fine with an external drive?

Anyone have a coupon from amazon they aren't using?

GeForce now games do not take up space. There is a tiny bit of data stored in the Hub app, but it's mostly account info.

I recommend the 500g version if you're planning to play local games--emulated or not. You can't move all data to the SD card, though that may change if the Shield is upgraded to Marshmallow.

Remember: If Nvidia holds true to their word, we'll be getting games like Borderlands 2, which are going to take up a lot more room.

I got the 16GB. If i could go back, I would have purchased the 500GB.

Constantly running out of cache space in Kodi so i have to delete apps. Still no way of moving apps to an external. I can only really have a couple games installed. Filled an external with emulator games and use it as additional space. But until there is a way to actually move the apps, the 500GB is the choice I wish I made.

How does one get these codes? I'd love one.

I read somewhere it depends on the game. Some games can run and save on external media. Some can't. That's why I bought the 500gb pro model.

That said, when marshmallow arrives for the shield , the unified storage (how marshmallow can allow you to merge your internal and external media into one logical volume), that will fix alot of this.

So if you get the 16gb, be prepared for some short term growing pains until marshmallow arrives for it

Where are you seeing it as $50 off?

On topic, I am a 16GB user and I have no regrets. The $500GB version is also a gamble; they had recalls on some of them for bad drives.

With 6.0 we can just use an external USB 3.0 storage drive as internal storage anyway. Nbd.
