Now only if there was a way to turn the TV off using Nexus Player remote, I don't have to use my TV remote ever.
May be they can add an option to turn the TV off when Nexus Player goes idle.

Have you tried controlling the Nexus Player using the TV's remote? It works on mine, and it means that I can ditch the NP remote instead of the TV remote (which I need for volume control).
This worked for my before, but ever since I updated to 6.0 it stopped working.
The really weird thing is that my Moto360 auto-connects to my NP when I get home, and I can swipe over and there is a "power" button that will turn my TV on.
Edit: got home and tried it and my home button turns on my TV again!
Heh, another thing I didn't realize until now is that pressing Home on the remote will also switch inputs on the TV to my NP. D'oh!
Wireless keyboard and mouse hooked up to my shieldtv, I just bump the mouse and the shield, TV and soundbar all turn on with the correct input and will return to the previous activity including live channels! I'm happy with HDMI-CEC. I actually have too many ways to control my shieldTV, the OEM game controller, m/kb, Samsung TV remote and moto360!
This is known as HDMI-CEC . Not all TVs support it (my 48" Samsung does not unfortunately), but its pretty sweet when they do. It will usually also change the input source if it needs to.
