Shield TV - TV apps not working

by lithouse

I just got the Nvidia Shield TV today. I was lucky enough to get the $50 off coupon from Amazon. I've installed FX now as well as a couple other TV channel apps and when I go to authenticate my account (instructs me to go on my computer to a specified url and input the code that i shown on my shieldtv) it keeps telling me that my device is not supported. I'm very confused. I use TWC if that helps..

Edit: edited for my horrible grammar/spelling

Some content providers (like Comcast, TWC) restrict which devices they support. There is a workaround as posted, but I just wanted to note this a content provider issue, not a device or software issue.

Also, congrats on your coupon. Super jealous. I literally bought my Shield last week - maybe if I had waited I could have gotten one.

I used this method to get FX working on a nexus player so I assume it's the same method for the shield. https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/3ql5hq/how_to_activate_fx_now_for_unsupported_cable/

I had this issue, took me a while to figure it out, but basically I noticed that when you try and make the request you can see which IP address its trying to connect to (which is the Shield). that IP address for whatever reason was not the one for my Shield. So I went to the router page and got the correct IP for the Shield.

In a round about way I took the request URL it was making, replaced the IP with the correct one and it worked.

This might be a different problem, but its worth having a look
