I think they somehow run on top of the YouView app. Before I plugged an ariel in and set up YouView, the app icons took me straight to the YouView setup screen.
I doubt it's possible, not entirely sure they are proper android apps.
If you can install ES file explorer on both the TV and the nexus player then you should be able to do it.
ES file explorer has a back up feature. They have a section called library>apps. Once you back it up but it stores it to the emulated SD card. After that navigate to where the file is saved and use the send feature. ES file explorer should be open and running on both the TV and the Nexus player to send.
Edit: you may run into compatibility problems because the Nexus player uses an Intel processor and the TV probably uses ARM
