[Speculation] Is Amazon Prime Instant Video Coming?

I have a Prime subscription but I rarely use it since there's no Chromecast/Android TV support. I'd love to see Amazon bring support - maybe I'd actually use it.

No no no. This isn't just speculation, it's wild and imaginative. The only reason anyone (and "anyone" is just Admin from cordcuttersnews.com) thinks this is because the Nvidia Shield is still available for purchase from Amazon.

There is no word from Amazon; no hidden code inside an apk; no leaked document. Just "they sell something that runs Android TV so they are admitting that they are going to bring Prime Video to Android TV!"

I bet so, it comes on Sony Android TVs by default. Works great too! Exclusive hardware deals like this hurt the platform that is supposed to be more open.

I would like to see it come to Android TV and Chromecast. But Amazon remains committed to shooting itself in the foot trying to promote their Fire branded products instead.

I think the only way this will happen is if Nvidia works directly with Amazon and includes this app as part of an update as opposed to from the Google Play Store. I hope this happens honestly because that is a huge thing missing from the Shield. Hoping that Amazon will release the app into the Google Play Store is far fetched since they don't want to pay Google's fees for in app purchases. It sucks, I agree, but if it gets Prime Video on my Shield I'm ok with it while Amazon and Google hopefully work out their differences.

Will_Not_Grow_Up

I'm pretty sure its because the Shield is branded as a console, not a media streamer. It runs Android TV, but its not marketed that way.

LiteweightPhenomenal

I highly doubt it. They see Android TV devices other than their own as a threat so I don't think they'll release it for quite some time, if at all unless there's a major backlash against them. I'm not about to renew my Prime.

I use PlayOn to watch Amazon Instant Video on the Shield. While I would love a dedicated app, it just isn't going to happen.

No no nope, amazon has done so much to stop people for watching prime on anything other than their hardware or tvs with it pre-installed (possible money changing hands?) Roku yes you can watch prime in the states but they refuse to publish the channel in the UK that would cost them zero effort and they refuse to. They flat out now refuse to sell chromecast. The apk which was working perfectly was crippled by an update so as not to function on other devices. The fact that they still sell the shield does nothing to mitigate the active efforts that they have taken to restrict prime to their members
