Does HDHomeRun support DVR functions? I think the Tablo is another option and it supports DVR. There is no dedicated AndroidTV app but you can add a channel in Plex to view it.
does anyone use this with the connect? on amazon it says the connect gets only SD while the extend gets HD. the article states that since android 6.0 all should be getting HD in theory. i have the old model and am looking to upgrade. prefer getting the cheaper connect if HD will work fine with live channels.
I run HDHomerun Prime and it integrates with Android TV great. If you want a DVR, you have to have a computer running as a dedicated server to schedule and record using some backend software like NextPVR or MythTV.
This is super interesting OP and got my attention (I've been willing to cord cut for a while now).
Currently my TWC bill is $145/mo :(
SO
After reading this guide, I am a bit confused.
Basically by buying the hardware I can:
Do I have to keep my TV subscription or can I just have Internet TWC subscription? I understand an answer to my question could be the Antenna, but I live in the middle of Manhattan NY so not sure that could work given big building in front of us.
I don't understand the CableCARD cards part. What's that part?
I also got the Nexus Player at Target so I would like to use this if possible, as you did OP.
ps: Sorry I am European - for us in Europe, cable / internet is simple, for ~€40 / ~£35 you've got Fiber internet, 150+ channels, worldwide telephone, so there is no cord-cutting.
Must be same here
Can I receive satellite channels using HDHomeRun ??
lthere are 3 apps that can do this for free without charge or for a small fee for fullHD, around 200 programs, mostly swiss, german, us and uk:
wilmaa, teleboy, zattoo
no need for any hardware. but i'm not sure if this works outside switzerland, as i heard germans need to use a swiss VPN for those apps.
What happened at io where they showed the true integration of terrestial, cable and stb just hasn't happened and never will. It pains me to say but android android tv seems to have already been abandoned by the Higher ups at Google Universal search isn't present (roku has it and the new Apple TV has it) Recommendations are next to useless and by next to i mean worse than useless. Simple things like rearrangement of apps on the home screen is not possible on stock YouTube autoplay aggggggggghhhhh I'll rather cast than deal with the dash to the remote to avoid the shit it serves Then you have the spectacular disaster that is the play store A few greatest hits follow Minecraft (works perfectly has to be sideloaded) BBC iplayer, yeah not a big deal around the world but in the UK it's like our nethulu all in one available on some platforms but not others (shield yes Sony tvs yes android tv nope) No good reason for it not to work just the same old shite of old men passing brown envelopes around) Amazon prime well this is just another whole level of fucked upness apk extracted from Sony tvs works for everyone, everyone happy, amazon cripples it. In the end it's just the same mishmash of several remotes all vying for our advertising opportunity to go to the loo.
This is the setup I use. Works great.
I was not aware of cumulus TV. Anyone use it?
