I am waiting for Black Friday/Boxing Day to see if there will be any further discounts to the Shield TV before I buy one.

I know right now you can get it for $175 USD + free remote, but Amazon mentions the free remote offer ends december 31st, so plenty of time to see if there will be another discount on the price before then.

No and i would buy shield tv now when it's on sale with remote

The order of merit for Android TV boxes is Shield > Nexus Player >>>>>>> Forge TV (good effort Razer)

The Shield TV is IMO the best performing box on the market. Razer said they're going to double down and come back into the market so maybe they will release something new at CES in January, and maybe it'll actually be a contender. Other than that conjecture, there is nothing coming soon that we know of.

lol. still on the fence about this?

dude, just buy it. its awesome, and at the current sale price you can't even come close to beating it (other than the alienware i5 box that was on sale yesterday for $189 for about 5 minutes.). its also setup for the future with 4k & hevc x265 decoding built-in already.

you can save money now with a nexus player or other box, but you're going to eventually have to replace it for tech reasons.

its leaps and bounds ahead of the new/upcoming amazon, apple, and roku boxes at video, and at its current price is cheaper. it also is an emulation station (through psx easy, and dolphin is actively being worked on for it), and can stream pc games to your tv from nvidia servers or your own pc upstairs.

the only thing you might miss is it does not currently have an amazon prime app.

edit: the alienware must have been a pricing error, its at $430 now.

No nothing better and nothing on the horizon - I was on the fence too but I'm so happy I got it.

I use my Shield TV daily. Highly recommended. The only thing I find annoying in real world usage is that the remote has a 1-2 second lag in waking up when you use it after being left idle for a time.

You are lucky US guys, here in Canada the Shield TV is 274$ + taxes. Even with the US (175$ deal with the remote) through Amazon.com it ends up 284$ CAD (with shipping, customs, and conversion).

Way to much for a setup-box.

I'm happy with my Nexus player but would like better x265 playback. The Nexus player plays x265 smoothly (in fps and no stuttering) but the decoding is buggy and sometime there is weird artifacts on the screen.

But damn I so want a Shield TV but not at that price.
