Music Streaming Apps? Any luck with sideloading Spotify, Tidal, Deezer or Apple Music?

by exubai

With rdio shutting down, I'm weighing the pros and cons of the various competitors.

Obviously, Google Play All Access is available, and none of the others have official apps, but I was able to sideload rdio and it worked fine with a keyboard/mouse.

I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with Spotify, Tidal, Deezer or Apple Music, or if you have suggestions for alternatives that I may not have considered.

Emma for Spotify is a really good app. There is a free version but you need to buy the pro version to access your playlists etc. You also need a premium Spotify account.

It should be possible to sideload Spotify and play music to it with Spotify Connect.

See: http://androidtv.news/2015/11/the-unofficial-guide-to-spotify-connect-on-your-android-tv/

However, I don't believe that there's really been a major push by anyone else to support Android TV.

Google Play Music is pretty great on Android TV, my phone, computer, tablet, etc... If you are looking for a good experience on pretty much anything, it is probably the best option. The fact that you get a membership to YouTube Red alongside it is just a bonus honestly...

Still waiting on spotify support like chromecast - AndroidTV is a second class citizen compared to chromecast it would seem.

I have the Spotify app sideloaded on my Shield AndroidTV. Works fine as a Spotify connect target.

Kodi has a Tidal plugin which I have installed on my NSTV, works great as long as you select anything but lossless as the streaming quality; this leads to failed playback.
