Hi everyone.
I just ordered the Nvidia Shield TV and I am not sure if I should try rooting it right away or not. On the other hand, I am asking myself if I take a risk if I don't do it. What if Nvidia will decide to lock the bootloader like Amazon did on the Fire TV or do whatever other thing possible in order to block the rooting of its devices? Although I'm hoping that Nvidia does not see this as a good marketing move, it's still a question that comes to mind.
Analysing both options (to root or not to root) I would chose not to root at the moment as I can sideload apps, use different launchers and I don't intend using a custom ROM that is not made for TV (for now).
What do you think? Will Nvidia choose to sail the Amazon river and block rooting methods or not?
What are the main advantages of rooting? What about disadvantages (if any)?

Thanks.
Doubtful. Nvidia is way more nerd friendly and they don't have an ecosystem they're trying to lock users into.
With that said, as someone who used to root all my Android devices and flash custom rom nightlies and custom kernels..I have yet to find a reason or need to to unlock the bootloader or root Android tv.
