Possible to use Shield as DLNA/media Server

by LorenzoBundy

Hey guys,

i recently got the nvidia shield. It's quite nice. One question: Is there an app, that makes it possible for the shield to act as a media server in my local network and stream files form attached storages to devices in my network?

Thanks

I've been wondering if this is a potential use for the end-of-life'd Google ADT-1.

Looking forward to hearing what you find.

I've used Archos for mine, but eventually went over to Kodi due to it's richer interface and ability to gather rich information for titles.

Kodi is free but Archos has a paid option. UPNP should work in the trial version.

Kodi has a built-in UPNP server. Works perfectly. Are you sure you don't have another device that can do the same thing, like your router?

Can you sideload BubbleUPnP on the Shield?

Did you find anything that works, OP?

I have personally used both MX Player and VLC Media Player successfully with ES File Explorer. I installed ES File Explorer, mounted my storage devices on LAN, found the video file I wanted, selected it, and chose to play with VLC or MX Player.

This has been my go-to solution on all Android devices.

EDIT: Misunderstood the issue. The above information is still relevant for a good way of viewing files over a network drive or DLNA device, but read my comment below for an example of how to do what OP wants.
