Is there a way to disable Voice on search and just use the keyboard?

by toekneebullard

I just bought a Sony Android TV and it came with a basic remote that has only RF functionality, and no voice support. I'm 99% the TV itself also doesn't have a microphone, as I've tried screaming at it and get no reaction, and I find no settings for microphones...

So the real issue is things like searching in the YouTube app. It only supports voice search as far as I can tell. So I can't search in it without using my phone, which I don't want to do. (certainly for cases where my kids are using it)

So is there a way to just disable voice altogether and depend on slow screen keyboard typing instead?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I did a search but wasn't able to find any useful info.

When it pops up and expects you to talk, just press right on the remote and it should bring up the keyboard. Annoying that it expects voice first though.

I haven't seen a way to disable it. Which is actually not cool considering some people may not be able to speak clearly or at all, like my father after his stroke. Like the other comment says (not sure is it is the same on your Sony) when you bring up the voice search just click the right directional button.

I have a Sony Android tv and got the voice search function fully working directly on the TV by getting a cheap usb microphone dongle from Amazon. Only cost a few pounds and it slips into the usb port on the side. Works a treat with no additional software needed and then gives you the option of voice or text search without needing the mobile app.

I'd also like to disable voice search. Even on a system with a microphone it's annoying that it pops up by default. Who wants to talk to their TV?
