Please file a complaint to the FCC because Comcast blocks almost every app on Android TV

by AFRUITPIE

HBO Go, FXNow, FOXnow, Starz, and a bunch of other apps just won't work for Comcast subscribers like me. If anyone else is pissed off at Comcast for blocking Android TV but not Roku or Apple TV, file a complaint here: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us (I filed it under internet, but it might go under TV too).

EDIT: To be clear, Comcast is not blocking the services themselves. Comcast is not allowing their cable subscribers to log in to their Comcast account so they can use things like HBO Go on Android TV, even though it is possible on Apple TV.

Threaten Comcast that you are going to switch to DirecTV, which has way better HD quality anyway. Or better yet tell them you are going to cancel in favor of Netflix and Sling.

I also do not have a problem with these apps, and I have Comcast/Xfinity internet.

Did this happen recently? I've used those apps before without any problems.

I'd complain to the FCC and I dont even have Comcast lol

How do you know it's comcast blocking them?

I have an AndroidTV and those apps work just fine, at least a few of them that I tried yesterday.

And Comcast can't just go and block usage of a bulk list of apps on certain devices. They're powerful but not that powerful.

Are there any Tv apps that work for Comcast?

I know there is a hack that makes FXNOW work for Comcast.

This is done on purpose to bypass net neutrality rules. It is one way to gain leverage on providers like HBO or FOX, and get more revenue out of them by enabling more device types. Using "security" as a barrier. Verizon does it as well on their network, by only allowing specific "certified" phones to work (not the unlocked ones which support CDMA as well). Eventually it always comes back to bite.
