I've been playing around with different apps but haven't found anything that can read NTFS drives, I've only had luck with FAT drives but would like to play files >4gb

I think it can read NTFS. I hooked up a 2gb WD my passport ultra to it last week that was formatted as NTFS (MBR). I used Archos Video Player. Only prob was Archos automatically scans and scrapes the drive for content and somehow ended up with 4gb in its local cache after that.

can do some more tests if you like
I believe it will work with ext2/3/4, but you would need a Linux system around to format it.
Try exFAT, it supports files larger than 4GB and many Android services support it.
Weird. I've formatted a 16GB NTFS flash drive in a Sony Android TV and it plays a 10GB+ video file no problem.
There are a couple of apps that can help mount an NTFS drive, you could try those. Or you could try streaming the file through Plex or something.
