Netflix (Hard) Crash Shield Android TV

by traCkready

Alright guys, got my shiny new Nvidia Shield Android TV today. Now at the end of the same day I'm about to plug the roku back in! Help! Netflix seemed to play fine all day. Now, if I leave Netflix for awhile and come back, or try to play the next episode I get the "unfortunately Netflix has stopped" message for a fraction of a second and am met with the home screen of Android TV. When this happens the only thing that seems to fix it is going to app data and deleting data. I have verified deleting cache doesn't resolve issues nor does rebooting through the power menu.

I did have a few OTA updates when I first booted the Shield so I went ahead and factory reset the device, just to see if that put this all behind me. 1st episode plays through, go to click the next episode as the first one is finishing up... Bam, home screen. Try and reload, it opens, I can count to 5 appox and it force closes every time.

I hope I am missing the obvious, I bought this thing to replace a flawless Roku because of the speed, Chromecast abilities and gamestream. Right now I'm getting interesting looks from the wife on why this 200 dollar box can't play Netflix.

EDIT: Resolved, see my post in the comments.

Contact Nvidia, it's not a common issue.

Try uninstalling Netflix updates and check if that works.

Weird, I have the nexus player but get the exact same thing, except never Netflix, only YouTube. It will work fine usually, but if I leave the YouTube app running when I come back there will be no content, just the background of youtube. No restarting will fix it, only time. I have just dealt with it though.

I will update if anything comes from Nvidia, as of now everything is back to working since the last data clear of app last night. I am starting to wonder if it was a Netflix server side issue crashing the app? I hope it's behind me but I will update if I find anything useful from my inquiry

No such luck, Netflix starting having issues again today. I did find if you can manage to click through the user menu and select a random movie it MAY start playing and not force close. If it sits in a menu of any kind it will force close in 3-5 seconds. Nvidia ticket is submitted for this and the shoddy accessory remote I received. I WANT this device to work, but man do I feel down about it ATM.

SOLVED: GP Store pulled an update for Netflix over the weekend, have not had the issue since. This may have been all related to another ATV bug in which the GP Store can not communicate with the server to pull updates. It is recommended to switch to wifi (if on Ethernet) go to GP Store in apps and clear cache and data. Restart device and go to GP Store and accept EULA. I will note this is NOT how I got mine to pull the update, but I did notice I would have to "retry" in the GP stuff dozens of times before it would pull data occasionally.
