I had this happen to me in Kodi tonight.
I was watching a TV show in Kodi and browsing the web on my computer.
I bought a game from the play store and sent to to my Shield TV to be installed.
Immediately the TV show stopped, the screen went dark and suddenly the daydream screensaver appeared. Moments later it said "Half-life 2 moved to SD card" (just the new app I purchased).
For some reason installing an app in the background and/or having it moved to the SD card caused daydream to activate.
I have this happen periodically and once it starts the screensaver keeps coming up during the movie after I press a button. To fix it I have to stop the movie and then resume. Normally I only need to do that once and the problem goes away, for a few days.
Seems like a bug in the app. A developer can easily set an activity to keep the screen on, which is why most media players shouldn't worry about it. You could file a bug report.
In the meantime, you can change your daydream settings to prevent it from turning on.
