How to install apks from unknown sources?

Ok i just got Philips android TV and first thing i must say is that this thing is bad, very bad. I got this TV on work for no specific reason but as i develop android apps i wanted TV to have Android on it. Anyway i figured that i can install some apps via usb but when i try to install them i get warning that unknown sources option is not turned on, and i don't see that option in settings. It seems that i need to somehow root/hack my TV to be able to install apks from unknown sources?

I want to use skype on this thing and send links to youtube and some browser on it. How can i do that?

I believe there was a post recently stating that Phillips had removed it from their build of Android TV. This actually could be a violation of Google's terms.

Phillips has reportedly restricted their implementation of Andriod TV to prevent installation of apps from unknown sources. Here's a link to a post discussing this issue:
