Any way to turn off TV with shield?

by BradB111

As the title says is there any way to turn off my TV when I 'turn off' my shield tv? the shield can send a command to turn the tv on, so is it possible to turn the tv off via a command sent through HDMI?

-my tv doesnt support 'sleep on loss of signal' which would solve the problem -My TV does support sleep after a given time of inactivity however any activity on the shield doesn't reset this timer so if I set that to 2 hours for example no matter what I do on the shield the TV turns off after 2 hours regardless.

My main reason for asking this is because I only use the shield so would like to cut down on the number of remotes I use.

Any help will be much appreciated.

It's easier to approach this the other way around if you have hdmi-cec. turning off your TV should turn off your shield as well.

My TV doesn't turn on when I start the Shield. How does this work? There is this Simplink setting on my TV (LG), I have already chosen that it should turn on the TV when a device attached to it is started but it doesn't work.

I don't know how you can do this without either using hdmi-cec if your tv is compatible and have the remote for it.

Or get a harmony remote or, if you want to go a bit a cheaper and are patient, a developer with flirc has said that he works for nvidia and they plan to add shield tv support. Those are probably your best options...
