There is a brand of TV called Arcelik.
As a Scotsman I find this hillarious
Why not link to the official page instead of the blog?
Hoping this kick starts development of more or at least better apps. I've had my nexus tv for over a year now and really disappointed at the lack of decent apps for it. Sure there are apps for most of the major streaming services and a handful of games. But it seems that AndroidTV support has been almost an after thought.
I hate the idea of embedding everything in TVs. It just seems like such a waste.
Good to see Android TV getting more use. But realistically, is there any advantage to buying a TV with it instead of just a box? I wouldn't be surprised if most of these TVs are never updated.
I wish google only had a way to enforce some decent hardware requirements for android tv I have a Sony Android TV and their "X1" soc/config is garbage for android tv BUT I also have an nvidia shield TV and love android TV on it
I think TV manufacturers will love this as it introduces more of a planned obsolescence within their device. Oh this TV is too old and it won't be getting Android Marshmallow or Android Nutella etc. People will now be more willing to buy another TV.. just like a phone. Before people only needed a new TV when we went from SD->HD->UHD but now it is a much shorter life cycle and another reason to upgrade.
Nice. This sounds right. Why build and maintain your own smart TV OS when Google has provided an open source option for anyone to use?
This is why I have faith in android TV as opposed to Google TV. Android already has a solid footing, now we're just going through the same pains Android phones went through ~5 years ago. Hopefully more partners will mean the ecosystem grows and in time, the users/app support will increase dramatically.
