Thinking of buying a Sony W800C

by rigidius

What are your thoughts on Android TV so far? How's the apps crashing issues, lags etc been after Sony updated the TV's firmware?

Should I get an Android TV or just go with a Smart TV OS?

You should get a normal TV and go with shield TV. I see lots of posts about problems with the smart tvs. The shield is much more future proof and since it's its only focus, much more stable.

The W800C is a great TV. I just bought a 50 inch and am really enjoying it. Auto switching inputs is a wicked feature. Google Cast built in. The interface is super smooth, but it's not too bad honestly.

As far as smart features go I really only use YouTube, Twitch and Kodi. I have very few complaints. I have Plex installed as well, but use that on my AppleTV instead of directly on the TV.

My only really concern is that I've noticed much more variation in volume with this TV. Most shows are loud enough at 7-10 on the volume. However I find myself needing to crank it up to 50. I didn't have this issue with my 2007 Toshiba.

I have this model to, and I'm very happy with it. The android tv works well, and the picture is great.

I got the 50", its working great, i was playing bards tale and it didnt get out of memory even once, trough 10-15 days the game was available to me at the same spot i left it. The performance in games is great, i cn notice lower fps in asphalt for example but its playable. I even bought a ps4 controller to use with the tv and i love it.

So I finally bought the TV. Coming from a 9 year old LCD TV it was definitely a big step up. The picture quality was waaaaay better than from what I used to watch on my old TV. Got myself a Logitech wireless game pad to go with it. Games that's not that graphic intensive are ok like beach buggy etc. Asphalt 8 and GT racing do suffer lower frame rates but they're still playable. So far I'm satisfied with the purchase. Thanks guys for the feedback.
