I was hoping the new app developed by MLBAM would have TV compatibility, but sadly it does not. It may happen in the future, because the MLB.TV app is TV compatible, but who can say for sure.
I think the only option for watching on TV via Android is to cast from another device.

Just got my shield two days ago. I popped kodi/sportsdevil on it. Haven't tested but it's worked in the past.
I have Kodi installed on my ShieldTV and the Game Center Live add-on from Timewasted installed. Works great.
