Hi Guys, just wanted to share some awesome stuff i just figured out. I own one of the Sony Android TV's but this should work on all brands.
I couldn't get KODI to open the "context menu" for an item, furthermore i had experienced that my old tv and raspberry pi combo could communicate the numberpad keystrokes and utilize the keys like the old t9 cell phone keyboards. These limitations on KODI for android, got me anoyed. Therefore i:
- Used ER file explorer to locate this folder (enable hidden folders first): Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/
- I found that the only keypad map in this folder was for an Apple remote.
I could at this point manually enter the keynumbers in this file, but i quickly realized that i didn't know what my remotes keynumbers were. The solution i found was this:
- Go to: http://addons.kodi.tv/show/script.keymap/
- Download the addon and place the .zip file on a usb drive (place it in the root of the device, making it easier finding it).
- Insert the usb in your Android TV device.
- On your device, go to: system->settings->addons->install from zip file, and locate/install the addon.
- Go to: Programs->program add-ons, and open "Keymap Editor".
OK, so now were ready to modify how KODI interprets the keystrokes.
- Click edit.
- Navigate to: Global->Navigation->Context menu.
- Select it, then click "edit key" You now have 5 seconds to hit whatever key you want assigned on the remote, make sure to point it at the TV :-)
If you want to enable t9 typing on your remote, then Navigate to:
Global->Virtual Keyboard, and set 0 to the 0 key, 1 to the 1 key, 2 to the 2 key... Pic of the setup
When done use the regular back button to move backwards out of the editor, before exiting completely remember to hit the save button
Thanks for reading :-) hope it's usefull...
edit 1: clarified some stuff...
On Jarvis, long pressing the center button opens the context menu. RC3 was just released last week, should go stable soon.
