Move Kodi to top of home screen on Razer Forge?

by Phaxda

Got this thing for $99 because my Ouya wouldn't stream ESPN3 through the addon anymore and it seemed like a decent deal. Proud of myself for getting Kodi sideloaded and running well--it's a big step up from the Ouya, smooth streaming. But the home menu on the Razer Forge is bugging me.

Figured out how to move Kodi to the front of the apps line, but how do I get the apps at the top of the screen instead of all the stupid recommendations (I disabled them all but now that menu is just up there telling me to add sources), followed by the "Discover" sections, then the few games that came over from the Ouya, and finally the "Apps" section.

TL; DR: I just want the "Apps" menu at the top; it would make me very happy and be easy for my wife to find so she can watch some streaming House Hunters or whatever without having to scroll through "Puppies Predict Superbowl" and assorted YouTube/Google Play recommendation crap.

I know it's not a big deal to scroll down and that I could autolaunch somehow maybe, but having trouble believing that I can't change the menu order and think I might be missing something really obvious despite searching this forum and others for a solution. I'd just like to have Kodi and all my emulators across the top, right there, first thing.

Don't think there's a way. And all you're really going to get here are people telling you how awful your purchase was and how much better a nexus and shield are.

It IS possible to some extent. I'll show you how to disable discover section so you can have your apps(and kodi) further up.

In order to do this, you have to go to Settings->Apps then move down to System apps tile. Go to app named "Razer Row Launcher" from there and select it. Force stop the app and clear data&cache.

When you return to home screen, you will notice the discover is gone and apps section placed right below the recommendations. Razer Cortex will also be moved to apps section.

Although it is possible to even replace the recommendations and other tiles, that will need you to extract .apk file for leanback launcher and edit relevant files, which may look a bit complex.

AFAIK it's not possible to change the vertical layout of the leanback launcher, it might be possible to put kodi into the recommendations section (the code for the recommendations section is based on notifications toasts).

You could try sideloading something like this and seeing if you can get Kodi to pop up in your recommendations although I have no idea if that'll work.

You could install HALauncher which is a highly customizable leanback launcher that also shows sideloaded apps.

I just sent Razer the return request:

I want to return for a full refund after ordering the bundle through your Ouya orders promotion. The device often fails to turn back on after entering sleep mode. I have to plug and unplug it in order to get it to come back, and about half the time it does not pair with your phone remote control software. I have tried to troubleshoot this as best I can, which led me to Amazon, Reddit, Android Central and others. All advised returning ASAP. Another disappointment on top of the Ouya.

Sigh.
