Someone ported AppleTV's stunning "Aerial" video screensavers over to Android and they work seamlessly on the Nexus Player and SHIELD TV

by hobbzey

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge Apple fan, but the lastest gen Apple TV does have some very very posh video screensavers that they call "Aerial" which can be seen here: http://benjaminmayo.co.uk/watch-all-the-apple-tv-aerial-video-screensavers

And some guy has ported them into an Android "Daydream" app, which upon loading on my Nexus Player, works beautifully well...

Developer here. Thank you all for the comments. Aerial Dream was the result of a weekend of hacking for my personal use and still has quite a few rough edges.

The source code is available at https://github.com/cachapa/AerialDream so contributions are always welcome :-)

I wish there was a way to cycle through daydream settings. These are cool, but I still would like to have my photos show during daydream

Not working for me.

When daydream starts I get a toast saying unable to resolve<apple cdn url>

Working great on my Nexus Player.

Question: Does it cache the video files or are they always streamed? As I leave the NP on 24-7, that could be a lot toward my data cap...

Cool thanks!

Could this somehow be ported as a BackDrop support?

sorry_I_said_that

As someone with a monthly data cap with my ISP, I wish there was a way to control the cache better. I'd rather select which aerials I want downloaded and when to download them rather than risk my Nexus Player re-download aerials each week. I'd rather download the ones I've got in one sitting and then have the option to update or add more later.

My router shows I'm maxing out my download speeds every time my Nexus player starts daydreaming, even when displaying aerials that I've already seen before.

I understand you can't distribute the aerials as part of the app, but a little more control over the content it downloads would be fantastic.

edit: Being able to select which aerials I want to use would also help with the cache eating up most of my available internal storage.

tried to install on my nexus play via chrome on windows and while it says its installed in chrome I see no option in the daydream section on my device.

Anything I should be checking?

Thank you!! Question: if I just add MOV-files to where you put them, can I just put any MOV-file in there and it will work? (I am a Noob, pls be kind). You can just say yes or no, you don't have to elaborate. I like the Nvidia Shield TV very much, but the DayDream feature is soooo boring. I want to put my own MOV-files in there and have them play in a loop. Yes, or no; can I do that? Thank you, thank you, Android people. :)

I have the Apple TV and yeah, these are stunning, like guests at my house stop and stare with their mouth open type stunning. I was told they're shot in 8k and then scaled down to 1080p.

This won't last long Apple will shut this shit down in a hurry. But it is nice.
