You're aware of the only two that exist. So. Ya. Decide.
lol. I came here to post this EXACT same question!! Ironic.
The only thing I know is that there are supposed to be some new 'boxes' this year. I don't have an Nvidia. Would like it, but don't need the gaming either, and the price tag is a bit high. I would, however, like a media player running Android TV with better specs than the Fire TV or Nexus Player. We have both of these. They are good for the money, but for the main living room can't we do better?
Sounds like you want a Roku 3.
I dunno of any that have a steaming function. There are plenty that stream though.
There are currently only the two AndroidTV streaming boxes you are already aware of, everything else is just a cheap box running generic Android. These knock-off boxes are universally a bad experience, and at best are like plugging an Android tablet up to a TV.
The Nexus Player is your best bet in the price range you want, but you may have to look around for one. Some local Best Buy stores may have them, or maybe an Amazon merchant? It seems production of these can't keep up with demand. They tend to become available in batches, then sell out, then everyone has them again later.
